quiet

it's going a little bit quiet over the next weeks - my grandmother died last week and we've got the funeral on wednesday. it wasn't unexpected but it's obviously a funny old time and i'm feeling a bit weird. i'm fine and then all of a sudden i find it hard to think i shall never sit and have a cuppa with my nan again while she knits/crochets/sews in her chair with her cat on her lap. she could be an awkward old bag sometimes, but she was also very kind hearted. someone wrote a quote by thomas campbell on a sympathy card to my mum "to live in hearts we leave behind, is not to die" which is a nice sentiment.
anyway...things will be quiet around here for the time being - we've got some trips planned for the kids, and lots of play dates with friends, so i'll see you all soon. i'll still be tweeting though so perhaps i'll see you there. xxx

update...of course, having said all that, i've just sat down and made a cushion that might (fingers crossed) make an interesting impact on a new product i might introduce to the shop (testing out fabrics) and of course i'll show you the results of my new screen!)

I'm so sorry about your grandmother. I went through a similar roller coaster of emotions when my grandmother died, so I can sympathize. That was a lovely quote that you shared- I hope it brings some comfort.

I know it can't possibly be the same pain as losing a grandmother, but I just lost my beloved jack russell terrier, and have been experiencing a lot of turmoil, too. Your beautiful quote helped me, thank you, and my thoughts & prayers are with you.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Granny. I really like this poem; I hope you can derive some comfort from it:

Parable of Immortality by Henry Van Dyke

I am standing by the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze
and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength,
and I stand and watch
until at last she hangs like a peck of white cloud
just where the sun and sky come down to mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says, 'There she goes!
Gone where? Gone from my sight - that is all.

She is just as large in mast and hull and spar
as she was when she left my side
and just as able to bear her load of living freight
to the places of destination.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone at my side says,
'There she goes! ' ,
there are other eyes watching her coming,
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout :
'Here she comes!'
