and yet more delights |
fanny in the states means bum. fanny here in the UK means, well, how should i put it? front bum. vadge. fandango. vagina. (and in my family for some reason, twilly) it's also the name george's mother in enid blyton's famous five and when i hear it i snigger like a 9 year old. the word 'fanny pack' reduces me to tears of laughter...
but i shall snigger no longer for it is also the nickname of
my new friend leanne aka the little house martin, aka fanny. leanne works for (and is the right hand woman of)
claire at patch fabrics and was on duty there when i went to teach the workshop a few weeks ago. leanne has a small but perfectly formed studio upstairs just off the workroom, behind a cute cowboy curtain. i knew nothing about leanne's talents until claire whipped the curtain back to reveal this adorable little room with all leanne's work on display. to say i was excited is an understatement...i think poor leanne was a bit frightened by my reaction to be honest, she's a shy little thing. i just love her designs & her colours, and the base cloth and and well, ALL of it really. she sent me a beautiful package yesterday and i cannot wait to get started on a new project, i've got something really special lined up for these babies...so GO ON! i urge you to get some
fanny in your life!
isn't she BRILLIANT? if you check out
leanne's etsy shop and you see something here that you can't see on there, please get in contact with her, because i'm sure she'll print some for you, she's very accommodating and lovely!

Twilly?! Now that really made me laugh! Stunning work, I love her colour choices - what a discovery. :)
I am also rather juvenile and laugh at the word fanny, and the few times i've heard the phrase fanny pack used i have had to leave the room as tears of laughter ran down my face! Wow, Leanne does some beautiful prints, v.impressed, i will be adding her to my Etsy favourites, and who knows, i might just buy some when i end my self imposed fabric buying ban (the damned Fest of Quilts nearly bankrupted me!!).
Beautiful prints! And yep, "fanny pack" makes me snort with laughter too. You know there's a yarn company called Twilley's? I use them quite a lot. Not sure I'll ever be able to see one of their labels ("Twilley's of Stamford") without laughing ever again...
lady garden?
hehehehehehe!
(in all seriousness, lovely fabrics!)
claire - yes i did, i used to have a wholesale account with twilleys & i could NEVER EVER keep a straight face when the 'twilley rep' turned up!
Twilly?
teehee, so funny, and yes I agree, BEAUTIFUL loveliness, off to check out her store now, thanks for sharing x
Gorgeous gorgeous prints! but yup, still going to smirk when I hear Americans talk about their Fanny Packs....
Ha ha, you "crack" me up.
Off to have a look at her shop now.
OMG, 'Twilley rep', I never even thought of that! *dissolves into fits of giggles*
twilly - now that would make me giggle !! love leanne's creations thanks for the links :)
haha i'm glad that my nickname has encouraged such sniggering giggly fits :D x my mum used to call me 'fanny-ann' when i was little and now my friends do too, i love it! and i would definetly rather be a 'fanny pack' than a 'bum bag' haha!! thanks Lu for the millionth time and all you lovely ladies for having fun and all your kind comments :D x x x x
This post made me snigger so much! Just off to look at Leanne's fab fabrics now....
Caroline xx
As an Aussie have to come in 'cos when the USA banks were melting in GFC one of them was "Fannie Mae" bank. What a name -don't know if it exists now but what a hoot to say you had an account at........
The wonderful Kate Spain for Moda years ago designed Fandango...
What fun the "English"language is..
Lovely fabrics! :)
I saw your quilts at FoQ, they look even better in real life :D I've posted a little bit about them on my blog, hope that's okay :)
Thanks for the word up Lu, I got me some fanny in my etsy fav's now...as soon as I have some pennies Im splurging them on a fanny fabric ;-)
Unfortunate nickname! Here in Australia fanny means vagina too, or weewee in our house. Now, twilly I've never heard before! I love her fabric! sarahleighATinternodeDOTonDOTnet
I love the new word (to me)twilly! What a hoot. I don't think I'll ever look at the word fanny again in the same way.
Thanks for the laugh.
It was a front bum in our house, but in my husband's it was a lettuce.
My Aussie sister-in-law recently told me how she can't stand the use of the word "Fanny pack" in Montana where she now lives. I had SO MUCH fun telling my friends about this translation nightmare!
<3 your work!
