stitched

this is another little glimpse at 'skyline', a piece of work i'm doing for an exhibition at ely cathedral. it looks a little like i've gone backwards from my last post, but i really have been diligently snipping envelopes and stitching away! there will be 40 of these squares (4 across and 10 down) which will be placed onto a grey background...it has changed a little in construction, my original plan was to do these in strips rather than squares, but when it came to stitching it looked terrible...i like the untrimmed threads in each square anyway, it's sort of become a bit of a trademark for me. anyway, back to grindstone, only 23 more squares to go ;)

envelope patterns

envelope patterns, originally uploaded by lusummers.

i was inspired by skinny laminx's post about envelope security patterns...it reminded me that my lovely friend kathy send me this design this week because it's hard to get hold of, (well, for me anyway :) it's originally quite a dark green but i messed about with it to create some new colours...lovely! this design also comes in dark green with a white background...

yawn, yawn

yep, another etsy sketchbook. you know where to get it. go on, you know you want to ;) interesting fact: the little teardrop shapes in blue on the right with a diamond pattern are from an airmail envelope (the inside) from the 1960's. the love letter inside was from my friend's husband (then boyfriend) to her when she was living abroad. she gave me all the old envelopes during a recent clear out as she knows i've gone a bit doolally over the patterns inside. and ones from the '60's and '70's...drool...
