collages

at some point in the summer, i shall be moving my studio from what is really meant to be the farm office into the old kitchen...it's over the other side of the house and looks into the front garden which will be rather nice. i'm not sure it's much bigger than the space i'm in now, but it's in the old part of the house and so has high ceilings and a big sash window. i've been pretty indulgent with lighting too so it's shaping up to be a really great room. it also has a mahoosive cupboard that i shall use as strorage and dark room. i'm excited...
anyway, i started moving some boxes around (somewhat halfheartedly i have to say) and found these little paper collages i made at the beginning of the year. i've decided to sell them, so if you saw them months ago and liked the look of them, they can be bought at the very affordable price of $20 each (around £12)...just click here to go to my shop! i might even find some extra little goodies for the packages...

brushstrokes...

a few new things over at my shop today. a new pattern, brushstokes has been hanging around for a while and i've not got around to photographing it as the days are a bit dull. luckily i managed to get some decent light this morning, and just in time as it's tipped down with rain ever since! i've also made some sets of the little paper houses, i'm so happy with them, especially with those metallic ink roofs...which may give you an idea of what's to come from me in the near future, bearing in mind a delivery of new ink colours and the christmas season! hmmmmm...metallics...i've also got another design to release, the 'loops' one which looks completely delicious done in copper...double hmmmmm...

SALE!

i've never had a sale in my shop before, but i'm currently redesigning/modernising my sketchbooks - this means i have a little pile of sketchbooks and notebooks hanging around and i'm slashing the price from $19.99 to $12.50. so if you've always wanted one of my books, now's the time to get one until stocks last! i will be also listing some tomorrow at the sale price in my plantlife design that i made for a show. they'll be fairly exclusive to etsy, certainly very limited edition! i have notebooks available in 1 x seafoam, 1 xorange zest, 1 x leaf green and 1 x teal blue if you're interested. if you want dibs on any of those, drop me an email at luciesummers{at}yahoo{dot}co{dot}uk and i can send you a paypal invoice directly. postage to UK is $3, europe $4, rest of world $6 (they're pretty heavy i'm afraid - but hey - you're saving a good amount on the actual book right?)
take a lookie here to see the available pattern and sizes.
on a different subject, many many thanks for all the fantastic comments left over at flickr and on here about my FoQ quilts. each and every one is SO appreciated, thanks my friends. xxx

sometimes, people amaze me...

i love seeing stuff people make out of my fabric, and was especially thrilled to get a message from lena the other day. she attached some photos of this little bag she made out of my sweetheart fabric - look how cute the embroidery is - such an original take on my fabric. in never ceases to amaze me how imaginative people are - i suppose i've seen this so much as 'just' fabric, it's never occurred to me that it's a perfect design to embroider!

in her own words, lena says:

"I am going to tote this little purse at a wedding this weekend....I am going to be a bridesmaid wearing a lavender dress. My 5 year old daughter Maya is already asking me if she can have the purse after the wedding :)"

thanks so much for sharing lena, i hope the wedding was a raging success, and that maya's already having fun with her new bag ;)

a long'un...(well, longer than normal, anyway)

so, naughty blogger that i am...no post for ages, but i am about to make up for that for i have quite alot of news...

firstly, i got a parcel from the states the other day, although before i realised what it was, i nearly sent it away again because i had to pay £30 import tax and duties on it...grrr...but, well worth it, for inside was all the gorgeous stationery i designed for galison. i a) nearly cried it's so perfect and b) kept stroking it for hours...my only problem is that although i received 5 of everything (social notes, coasters, writers notebooks, writers notes and writers pads) i can't part with any of it...so if you feel you can't live without any of the lushness (and believe me the quality is fabulous) you can order directly from the galison website. which of course is fine if you're from the states but if you're from ol' blighty or anywhere else it's a bit more complicated, see the galison shipping page for details by clicking here, and the friendly galison team will help you place your order!...and in the meantime if any of you fine people (from anywhere in the world) ever see my stuff in a shop or store, i'd love to know :) you can see lots more photographs in my flickr stream.

so that's that excitement. other news is that i have a new design...called 'sweetheart', it's the first design i've done for a particular 'theme' (ie valentines day) but in fairness, hearts sell whatever time of year, so hopefully it will do well. it obviously has a 'scandi' feel to it in format...anyway, it's available in 5 colourways, which you can see in both shops, etsy, and folksy. there's also a rather delicious larger A5 sketch/notebook available in two colours - i printed up a storm yesterday using different colour and design combos, so keep yer eyes peeled for them soon...have a happy weekend, y'all :)

colour it in number 2 & mod felt

hmmm, catchy title, not!

after all the excitement of buying my embellisher, i've barely used it in the last couple of weeks. after i finished colouring in my second colour-it-yourself poster (now available in the shop,) i was inspired by the colours i used to create a little 'try it out' piece with some gorgeous coloured felt from wonderful etsy seller kirsty of fuzzyfelt. i'm so happy with how it turned out, it was a real trial piece where i learnt a few things about the capabilities of the machine and how much to allow fabric-wise for shrinkage etc...now off to try another idea before dashing and picking up youngster arth (who was 4 the other day, how time is whizzing!)

i've got other news farm-wise (cluck, cluck) but will take pictures and show you tomorrow.

DIY colour

yay! after the advice i got in the comments section of this post, i have finally got around to listing new colour-it-yourself posters in the shop, in an outline colour of raspberry red. but of course, i can print it in whatever colour your heart desires :)

new placemats and coasters, loving these! available at the shop of course!

feeling felty

thanks to all those who bought sale items - they sold jolly well and now i've only got 5 pieces left (2 x flower basket in greens, 2 x flower basket in pinks and 1 x meadow in plum if anyone's interested!) actually just sold one each of those while typing this, so there's only one piece each left of flower basket in greens and pinks! only one piece left! click here for the sale section. all gone!

so anyway...here's something new from summersville...screenprinted industrial felt placemats and coasters. i've done a brand new design for these, but in the meantime, i got over excited and used twist in white on grey. dreamy! lots and lots of options here - all of my designs will be available in grey, black and off white backgrounds in lots of different ink colours. more sets will be listed slowly over the next few weeks... so if you fancy any of these printed to order, just let me know. sets of 2 placemats cost $17.50, sets of 4 are $32.50. sets of 2 coasters cost $7.50 while sets of 4 are $14. check out the listings here and here.

in other rather boring news, i'm on a diet after freaking myself out by weighing myself this morning. i've practically drowned, i've drunk so much water and my good ol' trusty weightwatchers books have come out to play. i've even made myself a posh food diary to boot. i thought if i said it out loud i might actually stick to it, willpower not being one of my strong points an' all. talk about all or nothing...

ohhhh, bargain!

fancy a bargain? i'm taking a new broom and sweeping my fabric stocks clean to make way for new work...so if you like half price sales, do pop along to the sale section of the shop where you will find mainly flower basket and meadow for a mere $3.50 a piece. i'm no longer printing these, so once they're gone they're gone. and as i'm just 2 sales away from 500 sales, the next 3 people to buy some sale fabric will get an extra piece of fabric for free. yes, free! it's like bloomin' christmas! (please note: the freebie will be a piece of meadow fabric of my choosing.) UPDATE: no more freebies i'm afraid, they've been snapped up by 3 lovely customers :)

currently available: (stock left in brackets)
meadow in teal (2) (sold)
meadow in rose (1) (sold)
meadow in bottle green (2) (sold)
meadow in plum (3) (1 left)
flower basket in seafoam & teal (2) (sold)
flower basket in rose & plum (3) {pictured} (2 left)

well bugger me!

looks who's featured seller...i don't know how the hell i managed to keep this a secret, i've known a month and have been printing like crazy to get my stocks up. as well as a few sleepless nights worrying that nobody will buy anything and i'll be the most disastrous featured seller in it's history. but, oh well, tough shit if i am :) go and visit the etsy home page and read my interview...(oh and my favourite songs/movies/books/websites have probably changed since i wrote it, back when i was a youngster of 33. fickle is my middle name*)
and guess what i was doing 5 minutes before the feature went live? why, sweeping the kitchen floor of course, just like a good little housewife. although i drew the line and actually getting out the mop and bucket. just like a very bad little housewife.

*it isn't really, it's janine.

yesterday i learnt a new word

i've just uploaded all my new sketchbook/notebooks on etsy and my back is killing me. just thought i'd post a couple more photos of the new twist design...off now to watch mindless telly and possibly eat some malteasers...hmmmmmm...malteasers...
ps...just to lower the tone somewhat (and you know how i love a tone-lowerer) i learnt a new word yesterday. sharting. it means to fart and follow through with a bit of, well, shit. i howled with so much much laughter, i actually slightly weed myself. thankfully i didn't shart. now that would've been ironic. did any of you lot ever hear this word, or am i so not down with kids it passed me by? i can't believe i've lived my entire 33 and 3 quarter years without knowing this word, and i keep trying to slip it into conversations. not easy when you're in a meeting with the bank manager or talking to your son's headmistress, trust me.

twist and shout...

these are the pics i've been wanting to do for ages and ages, but the weather has been so dull and 'orrible - i'm learning everyday where the good-for-pics nooks and crannies are in the new house, i discovered that at around 2pm the landing is a pretty good place - not too bright, not too dark. anyway, i've got lots and lots of new covered books to list on etsy, but i couldn't wait to post them here first (will do tomorrow)...and i've printed a new fabric! it's called 'twist' and it's only available on the notebooks at the moment, but of course i have plans to release it as a fabric for you to make lots of yummy things with it :)

A5

when i made my paper collage sketchbooks i used to get asked for larger sizes quite often. with this in mind, i've sourced some A5 (8.5x6 inches) sketchbooks (and notebooks too, just got to put an order in for those) and got jiggy with it printing some new covers. i'm going to enjoy experimenting with combinations of different screens and colours - the books are wider than my screens and rather than having some dodgy hand/eye registration going on, i thought i'd be a bit more inventive. this is the first one, and so far i'm a-likin' muchly. do you think if i went even bigger (A4) they'd work? what say you? opinions gratefully received :)

naughty...

me. i've been a really rubbish blogger lately, i'm sorry. i woke up this morning to find i'd sold my 199th item in the summersville shop! amazing, it's totally blown me away. i expect there will be a nice little surprise for my 200th sale :)

ohhhh, before i forget, i've just got hold of a load of lined notebooks the same size (A6) as my sketchbooks for those of you who don't like the idea of writing on blank pages. so you can write lists galore without risk of a downhill slide...(actually my pet peeve - i've been known to rip out pages when my writing goes south, it's the OCD tendency coming to the fore...) anyway, i'll be adding them to the etsy listings, and do shout if there's a pattern you'd like to see on a sketch/notebook - i can do a custom one for you.

what's been happening? well, nuthin' really - not much to report anyway, it's all a bit flat this time of year, isn't it? we managed to avoid the worst of the snow, although we've got more forecast this week. we did have fun in the snow - sam attached a sledge to his tractor and the boys and i were pulled along the fields at a surprising speed - that was brilliant, but it was snowing really heavily at the time, poor arth at the front looked like a mini snowman.

i'm slowly making corners of the new house feel more like home - i painted an old dresser pale blue for a dull area in the kitchen, and i'm thrilled to bits with it. now my coffee pots are on display, the house is much cheerier and less like a rental property!

alphabetty

i remembered what it was i'd forgotten to show you the other day! i've got two new designs! how stupid am i? i've been working on these for ages so goodness knows how i managed to forget. anyway, this is the first one, called alphabetty. i've only got pics of this one so far as my camera battery has just died...
